Zimbra Basic Administration Course
This is an in-depth 2-day hands-on session and will cover everything you need to know about installing, managing, and maintaining your ZCS deployment.
Objective
To be able to install, customize, troubleshoot, maintain, and manage ZCS. An overview of performance tuning, basic capacity planning and migration options/planning will be covered.
Prerequisites (participants’ knowledge)
The Basic Administration Course is designed for System Administrators with - at a minimum - entry-to-mid-level administration experience and working knowledge the Linux OS. Familiarity with Zimbra Web Client features is beneficial - participants are recommended to have previously downloaded and used the trial version of ZCS.

- Zimbra Admin Console Demo and Overview (hands-on)
- Frequently-used CLI tools – (hands-on) zmprov, zmmailbox, zmcontrol, zmaccount, zmlocalconfig
- ZCS System Care (monitoring system logs, queues, and other resources)
- Troubleshooting (hands-on)
- Question & Answer and Getting Help - Use Help Search, which searches Bugzilla, Wiki, Documents, to answer student’s questions. Overview of Bugzilla and Support Portal. Hands-on search.
- Day 2: Performance tuning, migration planning, and upgrading
- Day 1 review and Q&A
- Backup & Restore in ZCS - how it works, scheduling, using the admin console
- Performance tuning & Monitoring with zmstats
- Migration options & planning – This is an overview of the migration tools and options available to migrate mail, calendar and contacts. This will include a brief description of the deployment worksheets that could be used for capacity planning
- Upgrading ZCS (hands-on)
- Upgrade troubleshooting and general system troubleshooting tips
- Personalizing ZCS deployment - Zimlets, Custom Skins/Themes (hands-on)
